Must See Summer Events and Festivals in New York

The summer in New York City can be a magical time. If you are in the Big Apple, you should make sure to check out these must-see summer events and festivals.

  1. See SummerStage or Shakespeare in the Park

If you love live music or theater, then Central Park is the place to be during the summer.

Rumsey Playfield in Central Park has hosted an outdoor concert series, SummerStage, every summer for over thirty years. The concert series has now branched out and has performances in all five of the City’s boroughs. In addition to having a variety of awesome artists, SummerStage is also free!

The Public Theatre will be presenting two shows as a part of the annual Shakespeare in the Park summer event: Julius Caesar and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Shakespeare in the Park takes place under the open sky in Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

  1. Let the Today Show or Good Morning America treat you to a free concert

Both the Today Show and Good Morning America put on concert series that run throughout the summer. These concert series draw some major talent with the likes of Lady Antebellum, Jason Derulo, Ed Sheeran, and more performing in Central Park.

  1. Go to a Block Party in the middle of Manhattan

Attend the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party for some great music, food, and drink. The party has been happening every summer for the past 15 years and now hosts over 100,000 people from around the world in Madison Square Park each year. This festival gives you a chance to eat some world-famous, smoked-to-perfection barbecue while you stroll along Madison Avenue listening to live music. Plus, you can feel good that the proceeds from the event go towards conserving the gardens and other amenities in Madison Square Park.

  1. Watch some tennis at the U.S. Open

The nation’s biggest tennis tournament takes place in the City each summer. You can see some of the world’s greatest athletes in men’s and women’s tennis go head-to-head. Buying tickets to the Open allows you to not only watch some great tennis but also hear great live music and eat some great food from local restaurants.

  1. Dance the night away at Midsummer Night Swing

Midsummer Night Swing is a three-week festival with different artists playing each night for 15 nights. Each night focuses on a different type of dance, so you can have the chance to practice your ballroom, salsa, and swing moves!
